System risk and reliability analysis - Development of mathematical models to more accurately estimate the system reliability considering systems that show different levels of degradation. Applications are in multi-state network reliability, network optimization, etc.
Reliability modeling of power systems - Development of mathematical models to determine the reliability of electricity transmission and distribution systems (ETDS). Transmission expansion planning using renewable sources of energy.
Optimization in Energy Systems - Energy related problems are part of the major challenges for humanity in this century worldwide. Research in optimization in energy systems focuses on the development and application of analytical tools and modeling techniques for studying complex energy and energy-related environmental issues.
Data mining and pattern recognition - Development and application of new algorithms to classify and anticipate future undesirable system outcomes, and the identification of actions to be taken to minimize the system risk. Applications are in telecommunications, power systems and transportation infrastructures.
Sustainability Engineering - I am interested in interdisciplinary research that focuses in the understanding of the energy and sustainability challenges and alternative energy issues through innovative solutions for consumers and industry.
